The Witcher Season 5 reportedly delayed to 2027 on Netflix
Final season may miss its expected 2026 window as Netflix has yet to confirm a new date
MUMBAI: Geralt may have to keep his sword sheathed a little longer. The Witcher Season 5, which was expected to arrive on Netflix in 2026, has reportedly been pushed to 2027, according to What’s on Netflix.
The fifth season is also expected to be the final chapter of the fantasy series, but Netflix has not announced a release date or explained the reason for the reported delay. The change came to light after fans noticed that the show had reportedly disappeared from Netflix’s 2026 release calendar.
The delay is particularly notable because production is already understood to be well advanced. According to Redanian Intelligence, filming wrapped in September 2025, which means the series would have spent more than a year in post-production if the reported 2027 release goes ahead.
The wait also extends an already sizeable gap for fans. The Witcher last returned with Season 4 in October, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill.
Cavill’s departure had marked one of the biggest turning points in the show’s run. After starring as Geralt for the first three seasons, he exited the series, with Hemsworth stepping into the role from Season 4.
The transition, however, did little to calm criticism surrounding the show. Season 4 received a 59 per cent critics’ score and just 19 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, according to the figures cited in the report. Viewership also reportedly fell sharply compared with earlier seasons.
IGN gave the fourth season 7/10, describing Hemsworth’s debut as Geralt as focused but flawed, suggesting the season had some strengths despite the broader reception.
Season 4 also featured a recast Vesemir, with Peter Mullan replacing Kim Bodnia in the role.
The Netflix adaptation has faced scrutiny since before its debut, particularly from fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books and the video games. Cavill’s casting initially drew debate, while his subsequent departure and the change in lead actor added another layer to the show’s turbulent journey.
For now, Netflix has not confirmed a 2027 release date, nor has it officially stated that the final season has been delayed. If the reported schedule change holds, fans will have to wait a little longer before Geralt’s final Netflix adventure gets its last throw of the dice.
