MUMBAI: Shopping is getting a new wardrobe and this one speaks, sees and even understands what you mean before you finish asking. Snapdeal is stitching artificial intelligence deeper into its marketplace as it bets on smarter fashion discovery for shoppers across Bharat.

Snapdeal has launched a multi-solution AI Suite that combines personalised recommendations, conversational search, image-based discovery and AI-powered customer experiences, as the e-commerce platform looks to simplify fashion shopping for consumers beyond India’s metros.

At the centre of the rollout is StyleMatch, Snapdeal’s AI recommendation engine, which the company says now influences 76 per cent of all customer orders. The engine analyses browsing behaviour, purchase history, location, style preferences and real-time interactions to tailor product recommendations, continuously refining suggestions as shoppers engage with the platform.

The company has also introduced conversational search, powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), allowing users to search in everyday language rather than relying on specific product keywords.

Instead of typing generic queries such as “women’s kurti”, shoppers can now use natural phrases like “I need a kurti for Raksha Bandhan under Rs 700” or “comfortable shirts for office in summer.” The AI interprets the shopper’s intent, budget, occasion and preferences before recommending relevant products.

Snapdeal said it now handles more than 50 lakh AI-assisted conversational searches every month, reflecting growing consumer adoption of natural language shopping.

The company is also expanding visual commerce through Snap&Shop, an AI-powered image search feature that allows shoppers to upload photographs or screenshots of outfits they like. The technology analyses visual elements and identifies similar products available on the marketplace.

According to Snapdeal, Snap&Shop processes more than 10 lakh image searches every month, making image-led discovery one of the platform’s fastest-growing shopping journeys.

The AI push is particularly aimed at India’s smaller cities, which continue to drive the company’s business. Snapdeal said over 80 per cent of its orders originate from non-metro markets, where natural language and image-based shopping can help overcome language barriers and make fashion discovery more accessible.

Beyond customer-facing features, the company is deploying AI across customer support, seller enablement, logistics and internal operations, signalling a broader strategy to embed artificial intelligence throughout its commerce ecosystem.

As India’s e-commerce players increasingly compete on personalisation rather than just pricing, Snapdeal is betting that the future of online shopping will be less about typing keywords and more about simply describing, showing or imagining what you want.
