MUMBAI: The sponsorship playlist is already in tune before the first winner is crowned. Rusk Media has launched I-POPSTAR Tamil, its first original Tamil music reality show, with a quartet of brands signing up at launch, highlighting advertisers’ growing appetite for premium regional-language content on digital platforms.

The 14-episode series, which premiered on 23 July on Alright! TV, has roped in Ai+ Nova Smartphone as the Presenting Sponsor, while Farmley Makhana and Godrej’s Appliances business have joined as Co-powered Partners. Godrej has also come on board as the show’s Quality Partner, with Denver Perfumes serving as the Fragrance Partner.

The launch marks Rusk Media’s first original Tamil music intellectual property (IP) and reflects a broader shift in advertiser strategy as brands increasingly look beyond traditional television to engage younger, digital-first audiences through regional entertainment.

Unlike conventional music competitions built around film playback, I-POPSTAR Tamil focuses on original Tamil indie music, tapping into a segment that has gained momentum through streaming platforms and creator-led discovery.

The series is fronted by composer Yuvan Shankar Raja as Super Mentor, alongside mentors Shakthisree Gopalan, Asal Kolaar and Anthony Daasan. Combining competition, mentorship and original music creation, Rusk Media is positioning the format as a long-term franchise within its growing IP portfolio.

The company said the show has been designed to offer advertisers more than conventional sponsorship slots. Brands are integrated into contestants’ journeys through rehearsals, performances, backstage interactions and celebratory moments, creating multiple touchpoints across content and social platforms.

The launch also mirrors wider consumption trends in India’s streaming market. Regional-language content now accounts for more than half of OTT consumption in the country, while the organised live entertainment sector emerged as the fastest-growing segment of India’s media and entertainment industry in 2025, creating new opportunities for independent musicians and regional creators.

For advertisers, the format opens up opportunities spanning content integration, creator collaborations, digital engagement and social-first campaigns, as brands increasingly seek immersive partnerships rather than traditional spot advertising.

I-POPSTAR Tamil streams every Thursday and Friday on Alright! TV, while episodes are also released every Thursday and Saturday on the Media Masons YouTube channel.

The launch underlines how regional entertainment is becoming a serious business proposition for both content creators and marketers. As audiences spend more time with digital-first, language-specific content, brands are increasingly choosing to back original IPs that offer deeper engagement over conventional advertising, turning entertainment into a long-term marketing platform rather than just another media buy.
