Prime Video to stream six NHL teams exclusively in local markets

MUMBAI: The puck is dropping on another streaming play, with Prime Video adding six more NHL teams to its local sports line-up from the 2026-27 season. Prime Video and the National Hockey League have signed a multi-year agreement making the service an exclusive local streaming home for six teams within their respective regional territories. The teams are the defending Stanley Cup champions Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues.

For fans living within each team’s regional territory, the deal will provide access to regular-season games along with pre-game and post-game shows and additional team programming. Each club will announce the specific streaming packages and subscription options for its market.

The agreement adds to Prime Video’s existing local NHL coverage and strengthens Amazon’s broader push into regional sports streaming. Charlie Neiman, Head of Sports Partnerships at Prime Video, said the company wants to give fans more ways to connect with their local teams while broadening access to live games.

For the NHL, the arrangement offers clubs greater flexibility as viewing habits shift towards streaming. David Proper, NHL Chief Media Officer and Senior Executive Vice President, said the partnership gives fans an easier way to find and follow their teams while expanding Prime Video’s role in the league’s media ecosystem.

Prime Video already distributes local sports coverage through agreements involving the Seattle Kraken, MSG Networks, CHSN, NESN, Peacock NBC Sports Network regional sports networks in Boston, Philadelphia and the Bay Area, SNY, YES Network and Marquee Sports Network. The company said more agreements will be announced as they are finalised.

The NHL relationship is also expanding on the national front. Earlier this summer, Prime Video secured a 12-year agreement to exclusively broadcast Wednesday night national regular-season NHL games in Canada in both English and French, alongside significant postseason coverage.

For the six newly covered teams, US fans will be able to stream their local games at home or on the move across thousands of compatible devices. Viewing will be available through the web and the Prime Video app on smartphones, tablets, set-top boxes, game consoles and connected TVs.

Fans outside a team’s regional market will continue to have access through NHL Center Ice, keeping the local streaming deal focused on in-market audiences.

With six more teams joining its roster, Prime Video is turning regional hockey coverage into another sizeable piece of its wider live sports offering.
