MUMBAI: Looks like PlayStation’s newest challenger has been told to wait outside the arena. Sony has delayed the launch of its first-ever FlexStrike wireless fight stick after running into unexpected production issues, leaving fighting game fans waiting a little longer to get their hands on the new controller.

In a post on its official PlayStation Blog on 14 July 2026, the company said the FlexStrike would no longer launch on its previously scheduled 6 August 2026 release date. Instead, Sony said the product will arrive at a later, yet-to-be-announced date, blaming the postponement on “unexpected production delays”.

“We’re working to ensure we deliver the best possible experience to our players with FlexStrike, so we’re taking extra time to put the finishing touches on the product,” the company said, apologising for the delay and promising to share a fresh launch update soon.

The FlexStrike, unveiled as PlayStation’s first official fight stick, is designed for competitive and tournament play. Compatible with both PS5 and PC, it features a rechargeable battery and is priced at $199.99. Pre-orders opened on 27 June, with the controller initially set to ship just over a month later.

Sony said customers who placed orders through the PlayStation Store can continue tracking their pre-orders through their accounts and will receive further updates directly. Those who purchased through third-party retailers have been advised to contact their respective sellers for order-related queries.

The delay comes at a sensitive time for PlayStation, which has recently faced criticism from parts of the gaming community over its increasing focus on digital distribution. While the FlexStrike was initially received with cautious optimism by fighting game enthusiasts, the production setback has added to broader concerns among some players about the company’s hardware and platform strategy.

For now, the opening bell has been pushed back, with PlayStation asking fans to stay patient while it puts the finishing touches on its newest contender.
