Netflix adds four ChuChu TV collections in global content deal
Cookbook Media deal brings Indian preschool brand to Netflix in four languages worldwide
MUMBAI: ChuChu TV is taking its nursery rhymes on a bigger ride, with Netflix bringing four collections from the Indian preschool brand to viewers worldwide under a new global content agreement with Cookbook Media.
According to a Deadline report, the deal covers ChuChu TV Surprise Eggs, ChuChu TV Drawing with ChuChu, ChuChu TV Colors in FunZone and ChuChu TV Nursery Rhymes. The collections are available globally on Netflix in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
The agreement gives ChuChu TV another international distribution platform for its music-led, animated preschool content, which combines colourful visuals, songs and stories with early-learning themes.
ChuChu TV was launched in Chennai in 2013 by founder and creator Vinoth Chandar. According to Deadline, the brand has since built an audience of more than 180 million subscribers and accumulated 110 billion views across its content.
What began on YouTube has grown into a wider preschool entertainment brand built around recurring characters, nursery rhymes, music and animated stories.
Chandar said the brand’s journey began with YouTube and that the Netflix deal will allow its characters, songs and stories to reach more children and families across markets and languages.
The brand also described the move as another step in expanding the ChuChu TV universe, with its content now reaching audiences through a global streaming platform.
Cookbook Media has represented ChuChu TV’s content and consumer products in North America since last year, according to the report. Its mandate has now expanded to cover the wider franchise, including opportunities around consumer products, merchandising partnerships and potential spinoff series.
The agency’s co-founders Claudia Scott-Hansen and Rob Bencal told Deadline that the Netflix agreement could help extend ChuChu TV beyond content distribution into consumer products and marketing partnerships.
For Netflix, the deal adds an Indian-origin preschool property to its global content catalogue while retaining access to four collections across four languages.
For ChuChu TV, meanwhile, the move takes a brand that began with nursery rhymes on YouTube into another stage of its international expansion. With more than 180 million subscribers and 110 billion views already behind it, the next chapter is moving from the video platform where it grew up to the streaming service where families around the world can find it.
