Micro-dramas get a macro boost as Round Table Media joins hands with Story TV
The creative studio and India’s leading micro-drama app team up to bring AI-powered storytelling to the mobile-first audience
MUMBAI: Bigger stories are coming to smaller screens. Round Table Media, the scrappy creative studio that fancies itself allergic to hierarchy, has struck a partnership with Story TV, India’s leading micro-drama app, to churn out AI-powered micro-dramas for the mobile-first generation. The message from both camps is unambiguous: this is not a one-off collaboration but the opening chapter of something bigger.
The tie-up makes sense on paper and, more importantly, on screen. Story TV has built its reputation squarely around bite-sized, binge-worthy drama, essentially OTT repackaged for a phone held in one hand on a crowded local train. Round Table Media, for its part, brings a portfolio that spans writing, live-action production and, increasingly, GenAI filmmaking: AI ads, AI microdramas, AI music videos and AI video content built to look and feel cinematic rather than synthetic. Put the two together and the arithmetic is simple: a content engine married to a distribution powerhouse.
What makes this partnership worth watching is timing. Micro-dramas, those rapid-fire, vertical-format serials averaging a minute or two an episode, have exploded across Asia, and India’s smartphone-hungry audience is proving fertile ground. Global platforms have already shown that short-form drama can command real attention spans and, crucially, real advertising rupees. By fusing AI-driven production with a platform built for scale, Round Table Media and Story TV are betting that speed and volume will be the twin currencies of this format, and that generative tools can compress production timelines without compromising storytelling quality.
For Round Table Media, co-founded on the premise that a roundtable has no head, just ideas, craft and a relentless pursuit of the story, this deal is a natural extension of its stated ambition to work across every format, traditional and futuristic alike, whether the brief calls for 30 seconds or 30 episodes. For Story TV, it locks in a content pipeline that can, in theory, be switched on and scaled up considerably faster than conventional live-action production allows.
The two companies are calling it a “new partnership, bigger stories, limitless possibilities,” marketing flourish aside, the underlying logic holds. AI micro-dramas, big impact: that is the wager, and on current form, it looks a shrewd one.
