MUMBAI: Resort has officially checked in to the 100-million-hour club. JioHotstar’s Tamil original Resort has crossed 100 million watch hours, becoming the platform’s first fiction original to reach the milestone, according to JioHotstar’s internal data.

Since its premiere, the long-running show has built its audience around relatable characters, emotional storytelling and a weekly episode format designed to keep viewers coming back rather than treating each release as a one-off streaming event.

And while Tamil remains its biggest audience base, Resort is proving that a good regional story does not necessarily need a language passport. Tamil viewers contributed 53 per cent of the show’s total watch time, while the remaining 47 per cent came from audiences outside Tamil.

Of that non-Tamil viewing, Hindi audiences accounted for 22 per cent, Telugu viewers 15 per cent, and Malayalam and Kannada audiences together contributed 10 per cent.

The numbers give JioHotstar another data point behind its push for Long Running Shows, a format it has been expanding across South India over the past year. Instead of relying solely on event-led releases, the strategy is built around multiple weekly episode drops intended to develop sustained viewing habits and longer-term audience engagement.

Krishnan Kutty, Head, Entertainment Business, South Cluster, JioStar, said the 100-million-hour mark validates the platform’s investment in the format, pointing to Resort’s relatable characters, culturally rooted storytelling and sustained engagement.

He also highlighted the show’s cross-language reach, with nearly half of its watch time coming from outside Tamil, arguing that stories grounded in a specific culture can still travel when their emotional themes are universal.

Directed by Praveen Bennet, Resort stars Vijay Kumar Rajendran and Thalaivasal Vijay. The series follows Vetri, a housekeeping employee who dreams of becoming a chef while navigating relationships, ambitions and the behind-the-scenes challenges at the fictional RR Resort.

The show’s commercial ecosystem has also brought together TTK Prestige as Co-Presenting Sponsor, with Lalithaa Jewellery Mart, Kaleesuwari Refinery and Prabas Vcare Health Clinic as Special Partners.

Resort is available exclusively on JioHotstar in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.

For JioHotstar, the milestone makes Resort more than a successful Tamil original. It also strengthens the case for a longer-form regional storytelling model in which a show can build its core audience at home while quietly checking into living rooms far beyond its home state.
