Hoichoi’s Birangana scores a double win as Madam Inspector hits No. 2 on Netflix
Season 2 opens strongly during Pujo as a Netflix partnership takes Bengali stories to new markets
MUMBAI: Birangana is making a killing across screens. The Bengali crime thriller has scored a double victory for hoichoi, with its Hindi version, Madam Inspector, ranking No. 2 on Netflix’s Top 10 Shows in India, while the second season of the original series has secured what the streamer describes as its biggest Puja opening.
The second season of Birangana premiered on hoichoi on 15 October 2026, building on the first season’s success and strengthening the franchise’s position in the Bengali crime thriller space.
Headlined by Sandipta Sen as inspector Chitra Basu and directed by Nirjhar Mitra, Birangana 2 explores unsettling crimes, power, control and the policing of women’s identities in the digital age. Its portrayal of misogyny and violence surrounding women’s visibility has struck a chord with viewers during the festive season.
The latest success also gives fresh momentum to hoichoi’s push to take Bengali storytelling beyond its home market.
Under a strategic partnership with Netflix, upcoming hoichoi Bengali series will be made available on the global streaming platform in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The collaboration will also bring a curated selection of existing favourites and adaptations of select originals to wider audiences.
The performance of Madam Inspector offers an early example of how regional stories can find new audiences through language adaptations and cross-platform distribution. Its No. 2 position on Netflix’s Indian Top 10 chart puts the spotlight on a franchise that has already established a following among Bengali viewers.
For hoichoi, the strategy combines investment in distinctive regional originals with a wider distribution network. The aim is to preserve the cultural identity of Bengali stories while making them accessible to viewers who may not speak the language.
With Birangana 2 drawing audiences on hoichoi and Madam Inspector climbing Netflix’s charts, the franchise is making its case for regional content without regional limits. The crime thriller’s latest success suggests that Bengali stories can travel well beyond Bengal, provided they have the right story and a larger screen to land on.
