Flipkart and Meta team up to turn India’s creators into a shopping force
The partnership lets creators tag Flipkart and Myntra products in Facebook posts and Reels, opening a direct monetisation path for micro and nano influencers
BENGALURU: India’s social feeds are becoming its newest storefronts. Flipkart Group has announced a Meta affiliate partnership that allows creators to tag products from Flipkart and Myntra directly within their Facebook posts and Reels, letting consumers tap, discover and buy in a single motion. Instagram is next in a planned rollout across Meta’s platforms.
The mechanics are straightforward. A shopper sees a product in a creator’s post or Reel, taps the tag and completes the purchase on Flipkart or Myntra. The creator earns a commission on every sale. Brands and sellers, meanwhile, get a new route to high-intent consumers through content that is contextual, authentic and harder to ignore than a display ad.
Crucially, the programme is open to micro and nano creators, not just established influencers with millions of followers. That broadens the monetisation opportunity considerably across India’s sprawling and fast-growing creator community.
Flipkart Group says it saw this shift coming. The company identified the move from search-led to discovery-led shopping two years ago and has since invested in creator infrastructure and platforms including Creatorhood and Affluencer. The Meta tie-up is the logical next step.
The numbers back the urgency. According to the How India Shops Online 2026 report by Flipkart and Bain & Company, Gen Z now accounts for 40 to 45 per cent of India’s e-retail shoppers and drives nearly half of incremental e-retail orders, with influencer-led discovery playing an increasingly significant role in purchase decisions across categories from fashion and beauty to gadgets and lifestyle, in metros and non-metros alike.
Ravi Iyer, chief financial officer of Flipkart Group, said the company had recognised two years ago that Gen Z was rewriting the rules of Indian retail, with discovery shifting from search bars to social feeds and creators becoming the new storefront. “This partnership with Meta is a natural extension of that conviction,” he said. “It gives creators a direct path from influence to entrepreneurship and offers brands a way to reach consumers through content that feels real, not advertised.”
Arun Srinivas, managing director and country head of Meta India, called India one of the most exciting creator economies in the world. “By bringing together Meta’s discovery platforms and Flipkart’s marketplace infrastructure, we are creating a direct path from inspiration to income,” he said.
For brands and sellers, including MSMEs and entrepreneurs, the partnership offers improved product visibility, expanded market access and the ability to set their own commission rates. The tools sit inside a single dashboard for creators to manage their affiliate activity.
India’s 40-crore-plus Gen Z shoppers are already buying off social feeds. Flipkart and Meta just built the checkout counter.
