BULLET Microdrama appoints Apurba Sen as vice president, business strategy and sales
The vice president appointment lands as the ZEE-backed platform pushes Trinetra AI and international expansion into its next growth phase
MUMBAI: Micro-dramas have gone from niche curiosity to genuine business, and the companies building them are beginning to hire accordingly. BULLET, the microdrama platform backed by ZEE Entertainment Enterprises, has appointed Apurba Sen as vice president of business strategy and sales, a hire timed squarely to the company’s next phase of growth following the launch of Trinetra AI, its end-to-end AI filmmaking and content intelligence platform.
Sen’s mandate is a wide one. Operating out of the founder’s office, he will lead strategic initiatives across BULLET Microdrama, Trinetra AI, and future business ventures, working closely with the leadership team on business growth, strategic partnerships, fundraising, commercial expansion and international market development. It is, in effect, a role built around scaling an entire ecosystem rather than a single product line, which fits a company that is clearly trying to become more than just a content platform.
The experience behind the appointment is fairly substantial. Sen brings over two decades of experience building and scaling digital businesses across advertising technology, retail media, connected TV, streaming, AI-powered creative technologies and emerging digital platforms, having played a role in introducing and commercialising several independent global technology platforms in India, while building partnerships across advertisers, publishers, agencies and technology companies along the way.
Azim Lalani, co-founder and chief business officer of BULLET Microdrama, described the hire as arriving at an exciting stage of growth for both the microdrama business and Trinetra AI, pointing to Sen’s blend of strategic thinking, commercial leadership and experience across digital and emerging technologies as valuable assets in strengthening the company’s presence in India while accelerating its global ambitions.
Sen himself framed the move in fairly grand terms, describing BULLET Microdrama’s mission as the most purposeful he has signed up for in his career, and pointing to the company’s ambition to build what he called the missing intelligence layer behind the next billion screens, an entertainment operating system for creators, audio and entertainment worldwide. Having spent his career bringing global technology into India, he said the moment had arrived for an entertainment OS built in India for the world instead.
Whether that framing holds up is, of course, the question every fast-scaling platform eventually has to answer. But the appointment itself fits a fairly clear pattern: as BULLET Microdrama looks to combine creators, studios, brands and platforms into a single ecosystem, and as competition in India’s short-form entertainment space intensifies, strengthening commercial and strategic leadership looks like a sensible, if unsurprising, next step.
