NEW DELHI: Anuv Jain is coming home to the fans who made his music their own. With more than 18 million monthly listeners on Spotify, the Indian singer-songwriter recently met some of his most dedicated fans at Spotify’s ‘Coming Home to Anuv Jain’ experience in New Delhi.

Nearly half of Jain’s Spotify listeners are Gen Z, aged between 18 and 24, highlighting the strong connection his music has built with younger audiences. India remains his biggest listener market, with Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata emerging as his top five listener hubs. His music has also found audiences in international markets including the US, UK and Canada.

The intimate event brought Jain together with Spotify Premium members who regularly listen to his music. Fans were invited to participate in an in-app quiz testing their knowledge of his songs, with the most engaged listeners earning invitations to the event.

Jain’s streaming numbers have continued to stack up. ‘Jo Tum Mere Ho’ is his most-streamed song on Spotify and spent 16 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Spotify India’s Weekly Top Songs chart. ‘Husn’ was the second most-streamed song in Spotify Wrapped India 2024 and has spent more than 130 weeks on the Weekly Top Songs chart.

‘Arz Kiya Hai’  has also remained on Spotify India’s Top Songs chart since its release last year. The track is currently at No. 2 and has featured in the top 10 city charts across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.

At the Delhi gathering, Jain opened up about the stories and creative processes behind some of his best-known songs. He revealed that his interest in writing began during childhood, alongside painting, sketching, building things and writing poetry.

He also spoke about his approach to songwriting, saying he rarely repeats verses or choruses and instead tries to make every line move the story forward.

His fascination with space has also influenced his music. Late-night documentaries about the universe inspired ‘Antariksh’, while ‘Inaam’ marked an important shift in his songwriting. Jain described the track as one of his most underrated songs and said it was among the first pieces where he wrote about himself rather than love.

‘Maula’, meanwhile, emerged from a period of profound grief and remains one of his most personal songs.

Speaking at the event, Spotify singer and songwriter Anuv Jain said meeting listeners helped remind him why he began making music.

“It’s an incredible feeling to know that my songs have found a place in people’s lives. That’s always been the most meaningful part of making music for me,” said Spotify singer and songwriter Anuv Jain.

He added that meeting the people behind the streams, hearing their stories and sharing those moments was something he would never take for granted.

The evening also included one-on-one interactions between Jain and fans. He signed a fan’s guitar, personally thanked attendees and left handwritten notes for several listeners, some of whom had travelled from different parts of India.

Spotify’s association with Jain dates back to 2019, when the platform featured him on its Chai & Acoustic playlist. His ‘Baarishein’ later appeared on Spotify India’s Indie India playlist in 2020, and he has remained a regular presence on the platform’s charts since.

The latest gathering shows how Spotify is using its Premium base to move beyond streaming and create more direct artist-fan connections. For Jain, meanwhile, the numbers may be impressive, but the real measure of his music remains the people who continue to press play.
