MUMBAI: This weekend, the watchlist is serving up quite the cocktail. From action-packed conspiracies and celebrity reality television to romance, true crime and stories rooted in real events, streaming platforms are rolling out a varied mix of new titles for viewers.
Here are 10 releases spanning genres and geographies that could make their way into your weekend plans.
1. Reacher Season 4
Alan Ritchson returns as Jack Reacher in the fourth season of the action thriller based on Lee Child’s novels. The new chapter begins after Reacher encounters a stranger on a subway, pulling him into a dangerous conspiracy. As he investigates, he finds himself up against powerful adversaries and another fight where survival depends on staying one step ahead.
2. My Brilliant Career
Set in rural Australia, My Brilliant Career follows Sybylla, played by Philippa Northeast, a young woman determined to become a writer. Her ambitions take her to her wealthy grandmother’s estate, where she meets Harry, played by Christopher Chung. As romance enters the picture, Sybylla must weigh her feelings against the future she has envisioned for herself.
3. Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata
Kangana Ranaut leads this medical drama set against the backdrop of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The story follows healthcare workers at Cama & Albless Hospital as they attempt to protect patients, secure the hospital and continue medical operations while the city is under attack.
4. Don’t Say Good Luck
Sunny Sandler plays Sophie, a 15-year-old theatre student who lands the lead role in her school musical. Her excitement is short-lived when she learns that her mother’s cancer has returned. Sophie must navigate adolescence, her ambitions and the uncertainty facing her family while preparing for an important performance.
5. Cocktail 2
Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon headline this romantic drama about trust, relationships and complications that refuse to stay simple.
Kunal and Diya, under pressure to marry, travel to Sicily for a break and meet Diya’s friend Ally. Diya asks Ally to test Kunal’s loyalty, but the plan takes an unexpected turn when Ally begins developing genuine feelings for him.
6. The Traitors Season 2
Hosted by Karan Johar, the second season of The Traitors brings another group of celebrity contestants into a game of alliances, deception and suspicion.
Players are divided between Traitors and Innocents, with the latter trying to identify those secretly working against them while the Traitors attempt to survive without being exposed.
7. This, That and Everything in Between
Jodi Sta. Maria stars as Joanne, a successful television writer whose carefully constructed life is disrupted when her estranged mother, Paz, returns after almost three decades.
But Paz’s homecoming comes with a secret, forcing Joanne to revisit parts of her family history that have remained unresolved for years.
8. Umthetho
Umthetho follows Mbali Dlamini, played by Nqobile Nunu Khumalo, after she discovers that her estranged brother Moses, played by Tony Kgoroge, is still alive.
Moses is now the leader of a violent prison gang, and matters become more complicated when their youngest brother becomes involved in his criminal activities. Mbali goes undercover, entering the gang herself in an attempt to protect her family.
9. Women in Blue Season 2
The second season of Women in Blue returns to the story of Mexico’s first all-female police unit. This time, the officers investigate dangerous cases linked to the 1968 student massacre, leading them towards questions of corruption and inequality while testing their own personal limits.
10. A Child of My Own
This Mexican true-crime documentary explores the case of a hospital employee who pretends to be pregnant because of social pressure. The deception takes a darker turn when a newborn is abducted.
What begins as an attempt to maintain an appearance of conformity eventually becomes a widely reported case with consequences extending far beyond the woman at its centre.
