Six OTT releases bring crime, comedy and mystery to screens this week

MUMBAI: From family squabbles to island secrets, this week’s OTT slate has enough twists to keep the remote busy. Six titles across Hindi, Kannada and international productions arrive on streaming platforms, spanning coming-of-age romance, courtroom crime, psychological drama, family comedy and mystery.

Leading the Kannada offering is Mango Pachcha, a drama set in Mysuru and centred on Prashanth, better known as Pachcha, played by Sanchith Sanjeev. Pachcha leads a relatively quiet life, running a CD and DVD rental shop with his mother, younger brother and girlfriend Sooji, played by Kaajal Kunder. His routine changes after his father’s death sets his life on a different course.

Directed and written by Viveka, the film also features Mayur Patel, Hamsa Prathap, Jai Gopinath and Ugramm Manju. After its theatrical release on June 5, 2026, Mango Pachcha began streaming on JioHotstar on September 25.

Netflix, meanwhile, brings two darker stories to its line-up. The Final Problem, a limited mystery series based on Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s bestselling novel, traps 13 people on a small island off Mallorca in the spring of 1959. A violent storm cuts them off from the outside world, but isolation soon becomes the least of their problems when Elisa Mander, an English tourist staying at the secluded hotel, is found dead.

The series stars Jose Coronado, María Valverde, Martiño Rivas and Maribel Verdú, alongside Gonzalo de Castro, Cristina Kovani, José Condessa and Pepón Nieto. Directed by Félix Viscarret, it premiered on Netflix on September 25.

Also streaming on Netflix is Unabomber, a psychological crime drama directed by Janus Metz. The film traces Ted Kaczynski’s story from his time as a 16-year-old mathematics prodigy at Harvard to the FBI manhunt for the man later known as the Unabomber.

Jacob Tremblay plays young Kaczynski, while Russell Crowe portrays Harvard professor Henry Murray. Shailene Woodley plays fictional FBI agent Joanne Miller, who is tasked with tracking Kaczynski. Annabelle Wallis, Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg and Marc Menchaca also feature. The film began streaming on September 25.

For viewers looking for a lighter change of pace, Bakaiti Season 2 returns the Kataria family to the streaming fray. The second season brings the two branches of the family under one roof, where financial troubles, old disagreements and the realities of crowded family life create fresh complications.

Rajesh Tailang, Sheeba Chaddha, Tanya Sharma, Aaditya Shukla and Ramesh Rai are among the cast, with Ameet Guptha and Samar Iqbal directing. Bakaiti Season 2 premiered on ZEE5 on September 25.

JioHotstar turns up the tension with Hunkkaar: The Roar, a Hindi crime-courtroom thriller built around 17-year-old Meenu Rawat, played by Aneet Padda. Meenu accuses a powerful spiritual cult leader of sexual assault, setting off a legal battle that forms the centre of the series.

The cast includes Fatima Sana Shaikh, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Arjun Mathur, Raghubir Yadav, Zoya Hussain, Ram Kapoor and Rajesh Sharma. Directed by Nitya Mehra and Karan D. Kapadia, Hunkkaar: The Roar premiered on JioHotstar on September 25.

Rounding off the week is Don’t Be Shy, a Hindi coming-of-age romantic comedy directed by Sreeti Mukerji and produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt. The film follows 20-year-old Shyamili “Shy” Das, played by Aarushi Bajaj, whose carefully mapped-out life takes an unexpected detour when her boyfriend Mayank, played by Ansh Duggal, breaks up with her.

Shy initially sets her sights on revenge but instead forms an unlikely friendship with Mayank’s new girlfriend, Tara. Bianca Arora, Piyush Khati, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Neha Dhupia, Anurag Basu and Anju Alva Naik also star. The film began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 25.

With all six titles arriving on September 25, the week’s OTT menu moves neatly from Mysuru drama and family comedy to courtroom conflict, psychological crime and a murder mystery — offering a little something for viewers whose idea of a quiet weekend does not necessarily involve a quiet plot.
