Spider-Man: Brand New Day spins biggest ever Hollywood opening in India
Tom Holland starrer beats Avengers: Endgame record with Rs 60.6 crore net debut
Mumbai: Spider-Man has swung straight into the record books. Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has delivered the biggest opening day ever for a Hollywood film in India, eclipsing the long-standing record held by Avengers: Endgame.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the superhero blockbuster collected Rs 60.60 crore net on its opening day after releasing in Indian cinemas on July 30. Gross collections were estimated between Rs 72.44 crore and Rs 74.46 crore.
The film witnessed strong occupancy throughout the day, with evening and night shows driving the highest footfalls. It was screened across 17,250 shows nationwide on Thursday, reflecting one of the widest Hollywood releases in India.
The English version accounted for the largest share of collections with Rs 32.25 crore net, followed by the Hindi dubbed version at Rs 22 crore. The Telugu version contributed Rs 3.25 crore, while the Tamil version added Rs 3 crore. Kannada and Malayalam versions collected Rs 3 lakh and Rs 7 lakh, respectively.
With its Rs 60.60 crore opening, Spider-Man: Brand New Day comfortably overtook Avengers: Endgame, which had held the previous Hollywood opening-day record in India with Rs 53.60 crore net. It also surpassed the debut of Avatar: The Way of Water, which opened with Rs 40.30 crore net.
The latest instalment in the Spider-Man franchise also outperformed Tom Holland’s recent release The Odyssey, which had collected Rs 17.40 crore net on its first day in India.
The film’s opening-day haul has already exceeded the lifetime India net collections of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which earned Rs 38.32 crore during its theatrical run. It also raced past the Rs 21 crore opening-day collection of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Among all releases in India, the superhero film debuted ahead of Bollywood hits Pathaan and Dhurandhar, although Animal continues to hold a higher opening-day gross.
Notably, the record-breaking debut came without the support of block bookings, underlining strong organic demand from cinema-goers. With a clear runway ahead and positive audience momentum, Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears well placed to set new benchmarks for Hollywood releases in the Indian market.
