MUMBAI: Havas has blown the final whistle on months of speculation with a deal that puts sport firmly at the heart of its growth playbook. The global communications group has acquired Dutch sports marketing agency SportVibes, bolstering Havas Play’s capabilities across the Benelux region as brands increasingly invest in fan-led experiences and passion-driven marketing.

Following the acquisition, the agency will operate as SportVibes by Havas Play and will continue to be led by Managing Partners Frans Vleggeert and Imre van Leeuwen, ensuring continuity as it integrates into Havas’ global network.

Founded in 2003, SportVibes has built a reputation for creating campaigns that connect brands, fans and communities through sports marketing, live events, content, influencer programmes and proprietary intellectual property. Its client roster includes brands such as Gillette, Dash, DHL, Action and Lexus.

The deal also brings Track Record, SportVibes’ digital commerce agency, into the Havas fold. Led by Managing Partners Teun Verheij and Tim Nome, Track Record specialises in converting fan engagement into measurable commercial outcomes through a combination of data analytics, digital marketing and creative storytelling.

The acquisition strengthens Havas Play’s offering at a time when sport, entertainment, gaming, fashion, music and culture are increasingly converging as marketing platforms. The network said the expanded business will help brands build deeper audience engagement while delivering stronger commercial outcomes across the Netherlands and Belgium.

SportVibes also brings valuable credentials in large-scale sporting events. The agency is a co-organiser of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort and has previously been recognised as Formula 1 Promoter of the Year, adding marquee event expertise to Havas Play’s portfolio.

The acquisition reflects a wider trend in the marketing industry, where agencies are investing in specialist capabilities to capitalise on the growing commercial value of live experiences and fan communities. As traditional advertising increasingly gives way to passion-led engagement, sports marketing has emerged as one of the sector’s fastest-growing battlegrounds.

For Havas, the addition of SportVibes is more than a geographic expansion. It is a strategic bet that the future of brand building will be won not only through media buying, but by creating memorable moments where audiences’ passions already live.
