MUMBAI: The World Cup kicks off in two days and ZEE5 is ready for the rush. Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the content and technology company with a presence in over 190 countries and a reach of over 1.4 billion people, has overhauled its streaming infrastructure and secured a court order against pirates ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which it will broadcast across its digital platform ZEE5 and linear channel Unite8 Sports.

On the technology front, ZEE5 has been engineered to handle millions of concurrent users through multiple layers of resiliency and fallback mechanisms, backed by enhanced observability systems to ensure high reliability. The upgrades are designed to prevent buffering and outages during peak traffic moments, the kind that accompany a World Cup kickoff or a last-minute winner in the knockout rounds.

On the legal front, the company has secured a Dynamic Injunction against online piracy from the Delhi High Court. The order empowers Zee Entertainment to combat unlawful streaming in real time, directing internet service providers and regulators to swiftly block mirror and proxy websites. The move ensures that audiences can only access FIFA World Cup content through legitimate platforms.

A company spokesperson said the scale of the FIFA World Cup 2026 demands advanced engineering and deep operational discipline. “Our readiness reflects focused execution across technology, infrastructure and operations to ensure uninterrupted service even at peak concurrency,” the spokesperson said. “Our integrated approach across linear and digital enables us to set new benchmarks in live sports streaming while ensuring that viewers enjoy a seamless World Cup experience.”

Zee Entertainment’s dual play of platform scalability and legal protection reflects the stakes involved in broadcasting the world’s most watched sporting event. With 104 matches across 16 cities and an expected global audience of over six billion, there is no room for a dropped stream or a pirated feed.

The whistle blows on June 11. ZEE5 has done its homework.
