Prime Video Sets June 12 streaming premiere for Tamil hit Karuppu
Suriya-led blockbuster heads to Prime Video after record-breaking box office run
MUMBAI: After ruling the box office, Karuppu is now preparing for its next court appearance, this time in living rooms around the world. Prime Video has announced 12 June as the exclusive global streaming premiere date for Karuppu, one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of 2026.
Directed by RJ Balaji and produced by S R Prakashbabu and S R Prabhu under the banner of Dream Warrior Pictures, the fantasy action drama has emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year so far. Featuring music by Sai Abhyankkar, the film stars Suriya in the lead role alongside RJ Balaji, Trisha Krishnan and Indrans.
The film tells the story of Vettai Karuppu, a guardian deity who assumes human form as a lawyer to challenge corruption within a judicial system that exploits ordinary citizens. Blending mythology, courtroom drama and action, the film has struck a chord with audiences across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
When it begins streaming on 12 June, the film will be available in Tamil, along with dubbed versions in Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. Telugu audiences will be able to watch the film under the title Veerabhadrudu. The release will reach viewers in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
Speaking about the streaming launch, Prime Video director and head of content licensing Manish Menghani said, “At Prime Video, we believe great stories with strong rooted cultural themes will always find their audience and Karuppu stands as a strong testament to this belief. We are delighted to bring one of Tamil industry’s biggest blockbusters to Prime Video for our Indian and global audiences.”
He added that Prime Video’s long-standing association with Suriya’s films, including acclaimed titles such as Jai Bhim and Soorarai Pottru, continues with Karuppu. According to Menghani, the film combines large-scale storytelling, powerful performances and high-octane action that should resonate strongly with streaming audiences worldwide.
Highlighting the film’s theatrical success and streaming prospects, Dream Warrior Pictures producer S R Prabhu said, “Karuppu celebrates the spirit of rooted storytelling while delivering the scale and emotion of a truly commercial entertainer. The unique blend of mythology, courtroom drama, action, and contemporary social themes gives the film a very distinct identity.”
Prabhu added that Prime Video’s global reach would help introduce the film to a wider audience and extend the momentum generated during its theatrical run.
Meanwhile, Suriya expressed gratitude for the audience response, saying he was humbled by the immense appreciation the film had received in cinemas and was looking forward to its worldwide streaming debut. He noted that the continued enthusiasm surrounding the film had been encouraging and thanked viewers for their support.
The release also strengthens Prime Video’s entertainment slate ahead of Amazon Prime Day, which returns to India for its tenth edition this July. The platform is expected to use the film as one of its flagship offerings during the high-profile shopping and entertainment event.
For Prime Video, the arrival of Karuppu adds another major regional blockbuster to its catalogue. For audiences who missed its theatrical run, the film’s streaming debut offers a chance to witness one of the year’s biggest Tamil success stories from the comfort of home.
