Rohit Sharma makes his entertainment debut on Sony platforms
The World Cup-winning cricket captain crosses over from the pitch to the screen in what Sony Pictures Networks India is calling the year’s biggest entertainment launch
MUMBAI: Rohit Sharma is coming to your television set, and not to play cricket. Sony Pictures Networks India has unveiled a teaser featuring the World Cup-winning captain as he prepares to make his entertainment debut across two of the company’s biggest platforms, Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
The teaser, released on 8 May, is now live across Sony Pictures Networks India’s broadcast, digital and social platforms. Further details about the nature of the project have not yet been disclosed, with the company saying only that more information will be announced soon.
For Sony Pictures Networks India, the move is as much a brand play as a content one. By placing one of India’s most recognisable sporting personalities across both its flagship broadcast and streaming platforms simultaneously, the network is offering advertisers a rare combination of scale, cultural relevance and cross-platform visibility that stretches well beyond the boundaries of live sport.
Sharma has long been one of Indian cricket’s most bankable figures, captaining the national side to World Cup glory and building a commercial profile that extends far beyond the game. What he does next on screen, Sony is betting, will be watched by a very large number of people indeed.
The pitch has been set. The details are still to come. But if the teaser is any indication, Rohit Sharma’s second act has already begun.
