Pro Wrestling League announces official broadcast partnership with Sony Sports Network
The Pro Wrestling League is stepping back into the spotlight. India’s franchise-based wrestling competition has signed up Sony Sports Network as its official broadcast partner for the 2026 season, marking its return to action after a seven-year hiatus.
Under the agreement, all PWL matches will be aired live on Sony Sports Ten 4 and Ten 5, with simultaneous streaming on Sony LIV. The deal gives the revived league national television reach and a digital runway as it seeks to reintroduce professional wrestling to Indian sports audiences.
The fifth season, scheduled for January 2026, brings a reworked format and a sharper focus on athletes. Six city-based franchises, Delhi Dangal Warriors, Tiigers of Mumbai Dangal, Haryana Thunders, Punjab Royals, Maharashtra Kesari and UP Dominators, will compete in a league designed to blend Olympic-style wrestling with modern broadcast presentation.
The scale is deliberate. Teams picked 63 Indian and overseas wrestlers from a pool of more than 250 athletes representing 16 countries, spending over Rs 11 crore at player auctions. The mix of domestic stars and international talent is intended to lift both competitiveness and global relevance.
Akhil Gupta, chief executive at Pro Wrestling League, said the partnership with Sony Sports Network was a milestone in the league’s rebuilding effort, aimed at expanding wrestling’s appeal and creating a sustainable ecosystem for athletes in India and abroad.
For Sony, the deal extends its push beyond mainstream sports, adding a combat property with clear grassroots roots and global ambition. Its production and distribution muscle is expected to sharpen PWL’s on-screen experience and fan engagement.
After years in the wilderness, Pro Wrestling League is betting that prime-time exposure, deeper investment and a cleaner structure will put wrestling back on India’s sporting map. This time, it plans to stay pinned firmly in the spotlight.
