West Bengal CM unveils six point roadmap at Zee 24 Ghanta conclave

MUMBAI: After 100 days in office, West Bengal’s new government is looking beyond the calendar and towards the road ahead. At Zee 24 Ghanta’s Mega Conclave ‘Sarkarer 100 Din’ on August 25, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid out a six-point roadmap for the state, while announcing three specialised committees to examine industrial revival, administrative decisions and alleged corruption.

Marking the completion of 100 days of the BJP-led West Bengal government, the conclave brought together the state’s Council of Ministers, senior political leaders, legislators and other prominent voices to discuss the government’s priorities and the challenges facing Bengal.

“Performance evaluation cannot be done in 100 days. Now is the time to heal the wounds,” Adhikari said at the event, arguing that the previous administration had left the state “bankrupt” and that Bengal now needed to become self-reliant.

A key announcement was the formation of three specialised committees. Industry, Commerce and Enterprises Minister Tapas Roy will head the panel examining industrial closures and preparing a new industrial framework. Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta will lead a committee looking into alleged corrupt practices, while Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal will head another committee examining policy decisions of the previous administration.

Industry was a major theme at the conclave, with Adhikari recalling the circumstances surrounding Ratan Tata’s exit from West Bengal. He said the government would seek to create an environment where businesses could operate without disruption, putting industrial revival among the state’s key priorities.

Security and border management also featured prominently, with Adhikari speaking about strengthening the BSF’s role in border areas. He also addressed developments at Jadavpur University, including alleged anti-national slogans, and voiced opposition to what he described as support for extremist or Naxalite ideology.

The state’s tourism push featured another strand of the government’s roadmap. Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh outlined plans built around the themes ‘Partnership in Progress’ and ‘Tourism for All’, while Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul discussed urban administration and infrastructure challenges.

Cabinet Minister Dilip Ghosh spoke about the implementation of central welfare schemes in West Bengal, adding another dimension to the conclave’s discussions on governance and public policy.

Rather than limiting the event to a scorecard of the government’s first 100 days, Sarkarer 100 Din used the milestone as a springboard for a wider conversation around industry, employment, welfare, education, security and governance.

By bringing ministers and political leaders into direct conversation with the public, Zee 24 Ghanta positioned the conclave as a forum for scrutiny as well as announcements — giving the government a platform to outline its priorities while putting some of Bengal’s most pressing issues centre stage.
