STUTTGART: Allente is getting a smarter makeover. Viaplay Group has launched a next-generation set-top box user experience for its Allente super-aggregated entertainment service, powered by 3 Screen Solutions’ 3Ready Platform.

The new experience, which went live in early August, is available to Allente subscribers across Sweden, Norway and Denmark. It combines live television with on-demand content from multiple streaming services, while adding greater personalisation and faster content discovery.

A central feature is 3SS’s new profile-based 3Ready Experience Modes, designed around three distinct viewing habits: traditional live television, streaming-first viewing and children’s entertainment.

In Live TV Mode, the service opens on the last channel watched, allowing viewers to resume familiar channel surfing without extra navigation.

On Demand Mode instead opens on the home screen, giving streaming-focused users quick access to recently used services and content they have yet to finish.

Kids Mode provides a simplified interface with a smaller, pre-filtered selection of age-appropriate content, creating a more controlled viewing environment for younger audiences.

The platform integrates third-party services directly into the Allente experience, including Viaplay, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max and SkyShowtime. Subscribers can activate services on the device and discover or bookmark content across platforms from a single interface.

The new experience also brings a redesigned TV guide and zapping interface, allowing viewers to browse live channels without interrupting playback. Ambient colours extend elements of the content into the surrounding interface, while picture-in-picture on the home screen keeps live or on-demand programming visible while users explore other options.

The new Allente offering is built around SDMC’s DV9865 AI set-top box, which runs Android TV 14 Operator Tier OS and features an Amlogic S905X5-J system-on-chip, an ARM quad 64-bit CPU and a 4 TOPS Neural Processing Unit.

The NPU is designed to handle AI and machine-learning workloads directly on the device, giving the set-top box additional processing capabilities for an increasingly AI-driven television experience.

Viaplay has also integrated Tech4home’s Notus L12 programmable smart remote control. The remote provides dedicated one-button access to selected streaming services, while allowing subscribers to customise up to four buttons with shortcuts based on their viewing preferences.

The remote is integrated with 3Ready Control Center, allowing the experience to be adjusted and personalised over time.

“Through our close collaboration with 3SS, and the capabilities of the 3Ready platform, alongside state-of-the-art technology from SDMC and t4h., we’re delivering true hardware and user experience innovation,” said Viaplay Group EVP chief technology and product officer Philip Wågnert.

He added that the new system would give Allente customers a service that is fast, stable and user-friendly.

For 3SS, the new Experience Modes address a long-standing challenge for aggregated TV platforms: serving traditional television viewers and streaming-first audiences without forcing either group into an unfamiliar interface.

“In Live TV Mode, the service opens directly on the last watched channel, preserving the familiar live TV experience,” said 3SS chief product and marketing officer Pierre Donath.

He said On Demand Mode was designed to give streaming-first viewers immediate access to services and content, while Kids Mode provides a simpler and safer environment for younger users.

Tech4home co-founder and commercial director Graça Cândido said the launch also turns the remote control into a more personalised part of the entertainment experience, allowing it to adapt to individual viewing habits.

The launch builds on a partnership between Viaplay and 3SS that dates back to 2018, when the service was still operating as Canal Digital.

Allente was formed in 2020 as a 50:50 joint venture between Canal Digital and Viasat Consumer. Viaplay Group became the sole owner of Allente in 2025 after acquiring Telenor’s 50 per cent stake for SEK 1.1 billion.

Today, 3SS technology powers Allente services across LG and Samsung smart TVs, Android TV, Apple TV, iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as hybrid DVB-S and OTT set-top boxes. Its technology also supports Allente’s B2B hospitality TV services.

The new Allente experience will be showcased at the 3SS stand at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, where the company is highlighting the intersection of AI-powered hardware, aggregated streaming and increasingly personalised television experiences.

For viewers, the pitch is straightforward: less hunting through menus, more watching what they actually came for.
