Toonz Animation, Illusion Studios to produce ‘Gaturro’ for $6 mn

MUMBAI: Toonz Animation India and South American studio Illusion Studios will co-produce a 90-minute 3D animated feature film, Gaturro.


The project cost of the movie is pegged at $6 million. The pre production of the feature has been complete. The production will commence at the production facility in Trivandrum within two weeks. The film will be released worldwide by 2010.


Based on the Argentine comic strip, Gaturro is about the fun love story of two cats – Gaturro and Agatha.


“This is a new challenge for us. Gaturro as a comic strip is an iconic character and it would demand greater care to give life to him in a different medium. But I am confident that we will be able to rise up to the expectations of our audience,” said Toonz Animation India CEO P.Jayakumar.


“We are absolutely proud to have Toonz Animation India on board. It is an essential contribution to our international positioning, as well as to our strategy of opening up new markets for our film industry,” said Illusion Studios CEO José Luis Massa.

Adding extra sparkle to the celebration, popular comedian Kiku Sharda has joined the campaign. He anchors the integration with a lively rap track titled ‘Shin chan ka YAY! Dhamaal’, infusing contemporary music and humour into the beloved series.

Starting 27 April, viewers can enjoy the World Television Premiere of Shin chan along with new episodes and an exciting lineup of blockbuster movies on Sony YAY!.
