Star Sports to air Lanka Premier League Season 6 from July 17
Six-team T20 tournament features 94 players, including 32 overseas stars from 21 nations
MUMBAI: The boundary ropes are going up, and so are expectations. The sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is ready to bowl into action, with Star Sports set to bring the tournament to Indian viewers as Sri Lanka’s flagship T20 competition returns from July 17 to August 8.
Organised by Sri Lanka Cricket and commercially managed by Innovative Production Group FZ (IPG), this year’s tournament will feature 94 cricketers, comprising 62 Sri Lankan players and 32 overseas stars, underlining the league’s growing international footprint.
The rising stature of the competition is reflected in the response from overseas players. According to the organisers, the sixth season attracted more than 650 registrations from players across 21 countries, making it one of the league’s strongest international turnouts to date.
The player roster blends established global names with local talent. International stars such as Moeen Ali, Jimmy Neesham, Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka are set to feature, while Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar will make his LPL debut.
The tournament continues to position itself as a platform where emerging Sri Lankan cricketers can compete alongside some of the world’s leading T20 players, gaining exposure in a high-profile franchise environment.
Commenting on the upcoming season, IPG Group founder and CEO Anil Mohan Sankhdhar and the league’s official rights holder, said the record international interest reflects the LPL’s growing standing within the global cricket calendar. He added that the league aims not only to stage a successful tournament but also to strengthen Sri Lankan cricket by creating opportunities for emerging talent while delivering a world-class experience for fans.
Lanka Premier League tournament director Samantha Dodanwela said Season 6 represents another important step in the league’s evolution, highlighting the blend of international stars and homegrown players expected to deliver another competitive edition of T20 cricket.
With a packed schedule, a strong overseas contingent and Indian audiences able to tune in on Star Sports, the Lanka Premier League is once again looking to turn Sri Lanka’s cricketing passion into a month-long spectacle that extends well beyond its shores.
