Sri Adhikari Brothers revives Suraag with Doordarshan
Suraag 2.0 brings back Sudesh Berry alongside Sai Ketan Rao and Jigyasa Singh
MUMBAI: Crime may never go out of fashion, and neither, it seems, will a good old television suraag. Sri Adhikari Brothers and Prasar Bharati are bringing back the iconic crime thriller Suraag as Suraag 2.0, reuniting the production house with Doordarshan for a new take on the much-remembered series.
Doordarshan has released the first look of Suraag 2.0, which is slated to air soon on DD National. The reboot brings back Sudesh Berry, who played the original protagonist, Inspector Bharat, while Sai Ketan Rao and Jigyasa Singh join the new cast.
Originally aired on DD National, Suraag became known for its one-case-per-episode format, following Inspector Bharat through investigations that formed the backbone of the crime thriller. The series went on to become a recognisable part of the channel’s television legacy.
The revival also marks a reunion between Sri Adhikari Brothers and Doordarshan, whose association dates back to the production house’s early years. The two were behind several shows that became part of the viewing habits and television memories of an earlier generation.
For the production house, however, Suraag 2.0 is being positioned as more than a familiar title returning to the screen. It comes as audiences have been revisiting older Indian television properties, creating an opening for established formats to meet newer viewing sensibilities.
Kailasnath Adhikari, MD, Sri Adhikari Brothers, said the reunion with Doordarshan comes at a time when audiences are rediscovering iconic Indian television shows. He described Suraag 2.0 as a meeting point between nostalgia and contemporary entertainment.
The show’s director and creator Ravi Adhikari said the reboot aims to retain the spirit of the original while introducing a contemporary storytelling language and treatment for a new generation.
With Berry returning to the Suraag universe and a new cast joining him, the series will attempt to solve a different kind of mystery: whether an old television favourite can crack the code with today’s viewers.
