Rohit Sharma’s TV debut draws in top sponsors

Skoda, PhonePe and Google join a brand pile-up before ‘Family Full House’ has even aired a single episode

MUMBAI: Television has rarely seen a launch quite this loud before the cameras have even rolled. Sony Entertainment Television’s upcoming show, Family Full House with Rohit Sharma, has not yet premiered, yet it has already pulled off the marketer’s equivalent of a hat-trick, a sponsor line-up so broad it reads like an index of India’s biggest consumer categories. That the show is Rohit Sharma’s entertainment debut only sharpens the story. Cricket’s most successful white-ball captain steps into a genre with zero prior track record, and brands have queued up regardless. That is not hype, that is conviction.

The numbers behind the sign-ups tell their own tale. Skoda, PhonePe and Google Search AI Mode have taken the plum co-presenting sponsor slots, spanning automobiles, fintech and technology in one clean sweep. Avaada, UltraTech Cement and Fortune Refined Soyabean Oil have signed on as co-powered by sponsors, dragging energy, building materials and FMCG into the mix. Supersox and the BHIM Payments App round things off as associate sponsors. Six categories, nine brands, one show, and it has not even aired yet on Sony LIV or Sony Entertainment Television. This is not a sponsor list, it is a cross-section of corporate India betting on prime time.

What explains the rush? Three ingredients, according to Akshay Agrawal, head, linear ad sales at Sony Pictures Networks India, and each one is doing real commercial work. First, Rohit Sharma’s nationwide fandom, built over two decades of cricket and now being redirected into general entertainment for the first time. Second, family co-viewing, the golden metric that Indian television has chased for years because it delivers eyeballs across generations in a single sitting. Third, a participative format built around instinct, teamwork and play-along moments, which lets advertisers slip products into the content itself rather than parking them awkwardly between ad breaks.

That last point deserves particular attention. Sony is not merely selling airtime, it is selling integration. A show where families compete through games and conversation gives brands a chance to be woven into memorable moments rather than shouted at viewers during a commercial pod. For an industry battling ad fatigue and remote-control apathy, that distinction is worth its weight in ad rates.

Premiering on 19 September 2026 and airing every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 pm, the show also arrives with digital heat already building, with glimpses of Rohit Sharma’s new avatar racking up millions of impressions on social media before a single episode has gone out. For Sony, which has already reinvented weekend television once with Kaun Banega Crorepati and Shark Tank India, this looks like another calculated bet on marquee talent and family viewing paying off handsomely. If the pre-launch numbers are any guide, advertisers clearly agree.
