News18 Tamil Nadu’s Namma Run Chennai draws over 5,500 participants
Second edition brings runners, families and fitness enthusiasts together in Chennai
CHENNAI: Chennai clearly has a running streak. More than 5,500 participants turned up for the second edition of Namma Run Chennai, turning Island Grounds into a lively celebration of fitness, community and healthier living.
Organised by News18 Tamil Nadu, the event was held on Sunday, 27 September, bringing together runners, families, children, fitness enthusiasts and first-time participants from across the city.
The event was attended by Aadhav Arjuna, Minister for Sports Development and Public Works, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Rajmohan, Minister for School Education, Tamil Development and Information, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Their presence underlined the event’s focus on encouraging citizens to embrace an active lifestyle and make physical activity part of their everyday routines.
The second edition featured multiple running categories, opening the course to participants across age groups and fitness levels. Experienced runners shared the track with families, children and newcomers, reflecting the wider growth of organised running in Chennai.
With more than 5,500 people taking part, the event created an energetic atmosphere while pushing a simple message: fitness need not be complicated. Running can be an accessible way to stay active, build healthier habits and bring communities together.
The event also brought together partners from a range of consumer and business categories.
Be-Rite joined as the Presented By Partner, while Calcimax 500 came on board as the Bone & Joint Health Partner.
Parry’s Original Goodness was the Goodness Partner, with Fast&Up as the Energy Partner and US Cranberries as the Nutrition Partner.
Dynapar QPS supported the event as the Pain Relief Partner, while Campa Sure came on board as the Hydration Partner.
The partnership roster also included Canara Bank as the Banking Partner, Lalitha Jewellery as the Jewellery Partner and Decathlon as the Sports Partner.
Healthcare and infrastructure categories were represented by Mehta Hospital, the Healthcare Partner, and Suntech TMT Bar, the Strength Partner.

The second edition of Namma Run Chennai ultimately turned a morning run into a city-wide statement on active living, with thousands of participants showing that Chennai’s fitness movement is gathering pace.
