Macis Group to launch five news channels, create over 2,500 jobs across India
New network to comprise four regional channels and a national English news channel
Bengaluru: The news is multiplying. Macis Group is preparing to enter India’s television news market with five satellite News & Current Affairs channels, a move that is expected to create more than 2,500 direct and indirect jobs across the media sector.
The group, through Macis Media India Private Limited, is developing a network comprising four regional-language channels in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil, alongside a national English news channel targeting audiences across India.
Founded by chairman Madhaw Ciran, the group has begun groundwork for the proposed network, including infrastructure development, recruitment and regulatory processes.
The broadcast venture will be led by industry veteran S Divaakar, who has been appointed chief executive officer of Macis Media India. Divaakar brings around 30 years of experience in media management and revenue leadership across television networks.
In his new role, Divaakar will oversee the network’s strategic operations, talent acquisition, infrastructure development and national and international distribution.
The company is also building teams across editorial, engineering, digital, production and sales, with recruitment taking place alongside the development of studio facilities and the completion of regulatory approvals.
“Building a news network at this scale requires a combination of experienced professionals, fresh talent and technology,” said Macis Media India Private Limited chief executive officer S Divaakar. “We are committed to building an AI-enabled, state-of-the-art broadcast network powered by experienced professionals and innovative young talent.”
The five-channel strategy gives Macis a dual focus: regional markets through its Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam offerings, and a broader national and international audience through its English-language channels.
The group also plans to distribute its content through national and international networks, potentially extending the reach of its programming beyond its television footprint.
The project is currently moving through infrastructure development, recruitment and regulatory approvals. While launch dates for the five channels have not yet been announced, the group said preparations are progressing towards their planned rollout.
With five channels in the pipeline and thousands of jobs expected to be generated, Macis is looking to make a sizeable entry into India’s increasingly competitive news broadcasting market.
