NOIDA: The Jharkhand T20 Cricket League has opened franchise bidding for its inaugural season, marking a significant step in formalising and commercialising cricket in the state.

Owned by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association and managed by SJ Uplift, the league is aligned with domestic T20 standards set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. It aims to blend professional structure with grassroots talent development.

The bidding window will open on May 7 at 10:00 AM and close on May 11 at 11:59 PM, with applications to be submitted through the league’s official online portal. Prospective franchise owners will need to complete registration, KYC formalities, and financial submissions within the specified timeline.

The inaugural edition will feature six district-based teams representing regions across Jharkhand. The competition will include 24 league matches, followed by two semi-finals and a final, taking the total tally to 27 matches. Each franchise must field a squad of at least 15 players, all drawn from registered cricketers within the state, underlining the league’s focus on nurturing local talent.

Speaking on the launch, Jharkhand State Cricket Association president Ajay Nath Shahdeo said the league is a key step towards strengthening the cricket ecosystem in Jharkhand. He noted that it would create new opportunities for players while bringing a professional framework to the sport in the region.

Jharkhand State Cricket Association vice president Sanjay Pandey added that the initiative goes beyond a tournament, positioning itself as a structured platform that combines sporting excellence with investment opportunities and infrastructure development.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand State Cricket Association honorary secretary Saurabh Tiwary highlighted the league’s role in offering a competitive stage for emerging players, while also opening doors for investors to participate in a growing sports ecosystem.

Echoing similar sentiment, Jharkhand State Cricket Association honorary joint secretary Shahbaz Nadeem said the initiative would enhance exposure for local cricketers and help build a sustainable cricketing framework in the state.

Detailed eligibility criteria and bidding guidelines are available on the official platform, with successful bidders to be awarded franchise rights following evaluation and agreement formalities.

As regional leagues continue to gain traction across India, Jharkhand’s entry into the T20 ecosystem signals a broader push to decentralise talent development and create new commercial opportunities beyond traditional cricket hubs.
