Faith, family and frequency: How Fateh TV became one of India’s trusted screens

Devotional broadcasts and viewership surges signal a spiritual shift in Indian TV

New Delhi: In a media landscape crowded with a thousand channels chasing a thousand eyeballs, it seems faith is finding favour. Call it divine timing, but faith-based television is proving that devotion draws devotion, and Fateh TV is leading that congregation.

As Indian audiences wade through an ever-swelling tide of television, OTT and digital content, something interesting is happening: people are choosing not just what entertains them, but what grounds them. Cultural connection, family values and a sense of belonging are becoming just as important as sheer content volume, and faith-based broadcasting is stepping neatly into that gap.

Over the past decade, Fateh TV has quietly built its own congregation of loyal viewers through devotional, cultural and community-driven programming, including live Gurbani broadcasts from some of the most prominent Gurudwaras. The result is a channel that blends spirituality with accessibility, and consistency with genuine connection.

The numbers back up the sentiment. According to BARC India performance data, key programmes such as Amrit Vikhyaan, Shabad Kirtan and Sukhmani Sahib have seen a 27 per cent surge in viewership. These spiritual broadcasts are pulling in strong Average Minute Audience figures, particularly among mature family audiences and NCCS A and B households, the kind of engaged, high-attention viewership that advertisers dream about. For sectors like banking, insurance, healthcare, FMCG, education and consumer durables, this represents a rare combination of trust, attention and context, all in one place.

The cultural moment has grown bigger still. With the Government of India declaring 26 December as Veer Bal Diwas, marking the martyrdom of Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh Ji, the story of their courage and conviction has found renewed national attention. Fateh TV has responded with Safar-e-Shahadat, a dedicated initiative designed to carry the legacy of the Sahibzade to a wider audience, especially the younger generation who may know the history only in passing.

Crucially, Fateh TV’s growth hasn’t stayed confined to the television set. The channel now reaches viewers across cable, DTH, IPTV, OTT and digital platforms, including Prasar Bharati’s WAVES OTT, reflecting the broader shift towards connected, multi-screen viewing habits that modern audiences have come to expect.

Summing up the channel’s approach, Fateh TV managing director Rajwant Singh Vohra said, “Today’s advertisers are looking beyond reach—they seek credibility, audience loyalty and meaningful engagement. Our vision is to preserve heritage, embrace innovation and create lasting impact for both viewers and brands.”

Fateh TV’s trajectory hints at something larger unfolding across Indian media: faith-based broadcasting is stepping out of its traditional television box and into a multi-platform ecosystem where culture, technology and community all meet on screen.

In a media world defined by fragmentation, the platforms that endure may not simply be the loudest or the largest. They may be the ones that stay true to their audience, one broadcast, one story and one shared belief at a time.
