Mumbai: Disney is putting the pedal to the metal in streaming sports. The company has signed a multi-year deal to stream Formula E races globally on Disney+ across 144 territories, expanding its live sports offering as streaming platforms compete for loyal audiences.

Under the agreement, races will also be available on ESPN and ESPN+ in the US. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The agreement covers the upcoming 2026-27 Formula E season, which will feature 21 rounds across 13 events. The season begins in Jeddah on December 18 and will conclude with the final round in Tokyo on July 25, 2027.

The championship will also visit cities including Austin, Miami, Monaco and Mexico City during the season.

Live sports have become an increasingly important part of streaming strategies, helping platforms attract younger audiences and maintain engagement through recurring events throughout the year.

For Disney, the Formula E deal adds to a growing sports portfolio that includes select LaLiga football rights, NBA games and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The 2026-27 season will also mark the planned debut of Formula E’s next-generation GEN4 electric race car.

Formula E describes GEN4 as its fastest and most technologically advanced electric racing car yet, adding another technology-focused element to the upcoming championship.

Formula E is majority-owned by Liberty Global and will continue its existing broadcast television partnerships alongside the new Disney agreement.

The electric racing series previously partnered with CBS Sports in the US, with races available across CBS, Paramount+ and The Roku Channel.

The new global streaming arrangement gives Disney a wider presence in electric motorsport while giving Formula E access to a large international streaming audience. With the new season bringing a new generation of cars and a broader digital distribution strategy, Formula E is accelerating into its next phase on and off the track.
