78th Primetime Emmy Awards: When and where to watch in India

MUMBAI: Television’s biggest night is setting an early-morning alarm for Indian viewers, with the Emmy spotlight switching on in the small hours of September 15. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held in the US on September 14, with Indian audiences able to watch the ceremony live on JioHotstar in the early hours of September 15. The ceremony is scheduled for 8 pm ET or 5 pm PT in the US. For viewers in India, the red carpet begins at 4:30 am IST on September 15, followed by the main awards ceremony at 5:30 am IST.

Actor Mariska Hargitay will host the Emmys for the first time. The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star has also recently won two Emmy Awards for My Mom Jayne, a documentary about her late mother, actor Jayne Mansfield.

Hargitay has even delivered a message directly to Indian viewers ahead of the ceremony, saying, “Namaste India, don’t miss television’s biggest night. 78th Emmy Awards, streaming live only on JioHotstar.”

In the US, the ceremony will be broadcast live nationwide on NBC and will also stream live and on demand on Peacock.

On the nominations front, HBO’s medical drama The Pitt enters the night as the biggest contender with 25 nominations. Hacks follows closely with 24, while also setting a record for the highest number of Emmy nominations received by a comedy series in a single year.

DTF St. Louis has picked up 17 nominations, while The Bear and All Her Fault have 15 each. The Gilded Age follows with 13, while Abbott Elementary and Only Murders in the Building have 10 apiece. Euphoria has nine nominations.

There is also an Indian connection in the mix, with Priyanka Chopra’s Heads of State nominated in the Outstanding Television Movie category.

For Indian Emmy watchers, then, the schedule is simple: the red carpet starts at 4:30 am IST on September 15, with the main ceremony following at 5:30 am. The only real question is whether the coffee will be ready before the awards are.
