Time Warner mulls launch of premium VOD service

Published

MUMBAI: By summer next year, Time Warner will roll out a premium VOD service to allow consumers to watch movies at theatrical release in the comfort of their homes. The service that will be available in HD and 3D, will cost consumers a fee of $30.

It may be interesting to note that Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. and Disney are also working out a distribution plan via cable partners. The films would be made available in partnership with In Demand, a joint VOD effort from Cox Communications, Comcast and Time Warner Cable. The service may be later availed by Disney too.

Warner Bros. will start tests later this year and is working out plans of how soon it can put a movie on VOD after its theatrical release.

Time Warner has already negotiated a 28-day window after DVD to release content to Red Box and Netflix for streaming.
Time Warner is also working out with other entertainment and technology companies to create a digital locker mechanism.
