National AI skilling drive crosses 60,000 enrolments in Phase I
552 participants have completed all four modules of the 33-hour AI programme
NEW DELHI: India’s AI learning curve is gathering pace, with 60,253 people enrolling in Phase I of the government’s National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Skilling Initiative.
The figures were shared by L. Murugan in a written reply to a Lok Sabha question raised by Gowaal Kagada Padavi on Wednesday.
Of the total enrolments, 4,620 participants have completed two modules, while 552 have completed all four modules under Phase I.
The first phase comprises four modules with a total duration of 33 hours and is delivered through two learning platforms. The curriculum is designed to take participants from basic AI concepts to practical applications of generative AI.
The first platform includes AI Essentials, which focuses on using AI to improve everyday productivity, synthesise data and create content, followed by Prompting Essentials, which teaches participants how to write effective professional prompts.
The second platform covers Introduction to Generative AI, which introduces learners to large language model fundamentals and responsible AI practices. The final module, Generative AI Leader, focuses on workflow automation and strategic use of generative AI for organisational transformation.
The curriculum has been jointly designed and developed by the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and private sector partners, with a focus on foundational and practical AI skills.
The advanced skilling component is being conducted by IICT for joint certification, adding an industry-oriented element to the programme.
The government’s role is to provide strategic direction and facilitate implementation through IICT, with the broader objective of improving AI literacy and equipping students with industry-relevant digital skills.
Details of Phase II, including its curriculum, modules and course duration, are still being finalised.
The initiative comes as AI skills become increasingly important across industries, with organisations looking for professionals who can not only use generative AI tools but also understand their practical and responsible application.
