FX and FX HD to premiere ‘Luther’

MUMBAI: FX, India’s edgy entertainment channel is the one stop destination for all the edge of the seat content on television! Taking its edginess a step further the channel is all set to premiere one of the most spirited and action-packed psychological crime dramas on English television today, Luther. The show that has won numerous accolades will be showcased starting 12 April every Monday to Friday at 11 pm on FX and FX HD.

Luther stars a stellar cast, two of whom are renowned for their reputation as award-winning actors in Tinsel Town such as the magnanimous Idris Elba and the unparalleled Ruth Wilson. The show follows the life of its titular character John Luther played by Idris Elba who is an obsessive, possessed, and sometimes even violent Detective chief inspector working for the Serious Crime Unit. He is always on the job and his work comes first. However, his dedication to his job is not just a blessing but also a curse as he constantly struggles to prevent himself from being consumed by the darkness of the crimes with which he deals.

Speaking about his character, Idris Elba said, “John Luther just won’t sleep. He just can’t keep still. As long as there’s someone out there trying to get away with murder he’s going to try and chase them. He’s like a cat with a red dot. He just can’t stop that feeling of wanting to right some wrongs.”

The actor who has won numerous accolades for his performance as DUI John Luther including the prestigious Golden Globe is joined on-screen by powerful actor Ruth Wilson who plays the role of an exceptionally brilliant psychopath and murderer Alice Morgan who murders her own parents. Given the circumstances, she soon becomes a close friend of Luther’s and one of the few people he trusts, sometimes acting as his accomplice.

Join in on the adventures of the near-genius murder detective Luther and his abettor Alice as they solve some of the most cunning criminal cases in the history of crime and bring viewers to the edge of their seats.

Ellison takes his Paramount-Warner Bros case straight to theater owners

The Skydance chief goes to CinemaCon with promises and a skeptical crowd waiting

CALIFORNIA: David Ellison strode into a room packed with thousands of cinema owners and executives at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday and did something rather bold: he looked them in the eye and asked them to trust him.

The chief executive of Paramount Skydance vowed that his company would release a minimum of 30 films a year if regulators greenlight its proposed $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery, a deal that has made theater owners deeply, and loudly, nervous.

“I wanted to look every single one of you in the eye and give you my word,” Ellison told the crowd. “Once we combine with Warner Bros, we are going to make a minimum of 30 films annually across both studios.”

It was a confident pitch. Whether it landed is another matter. Cinema operators have already called on regulators to block the deal, and scepticism in the room was hardly concealed.

Ellison pushed back by pointing to recent form. Paramount, born from the merger of Paramount Global and Skydance Media last August, plans to release 15 films this year, nearly double the eight it put out in 2025. Progress, he argued, was already underway.

He also threw theater owners a bone they have long been chasing: all films, he pledged, would run exclusively in cinemas for a minimum of 45 days, drawing applause from a crowd that has spent years fighting for exactly that commitment across the industry.

“People can speculate all they want,” Ellison said, “but I am standing here today telling you personally that you can count on our complete commitment. And we’ll show you we mean it.”

Fine words. The regulators, however, will have the last one.
