Veteran producer Dillip Mohanty joins JioBlast to helm live production

MUMBAI: Dillip Mohanty has landed at JioBlast as vice-president of live production, bringing two decades of sports broadcasting chops to the esports upstart. The move marks another coup for Charlie Cowdrey’s venture, which is betting big on blending competitive gaming with mainstream entertainment.

Mohanty’s CV reads like a greatest hits of Indian sports broadcasting. He cut his teeth at ESPN Star Sports, spending 11 years climbing from assistant producer to senior producer analytics, covering everything from the 2003 Cricket World Cup to the 2016 ICC World T20. He later operated Hawk-Eye systems across cricket and badminton tournaments, managed content at Cricket.com, and steered esports initiatives at Mobile Premier League and One Digital Entertainment.

His most recent stint as associate vice-president of sports, esports and games at One Digital Entertainment ended in September, setting him up nicely for the JioBlast gig.

The appointment signals JioBlast’s serious intent to marry broadcast polish with esports energy. With Mohanty’s track record in data visualisation, live production and cross-platform storytelling, the company appears ready to make noise in India’s fast-growing gaming entertainment space.

Whether he can translate cricket’s production playbook to esports remains the real test.
