MUMBAI: The beat of India’s music industry has gone global but its paperwork was still stuck on pause. While Indian artists now top international playlists and streaming has brought over 185 million listeners into the fold, many musicians still face messy contracts, slow timelines, and handshake deals gone wrong.

Enter Songpact, the platform that wants to make legalese as simple as a chorus hook. Launched in India on 10 November, Songpact promises to make professional music contracts fast, fair, and accessible not just for the top one per cent of hitmakers, but for every creator with a mic, a melody, or a dream.

“Throughout my professional journey, I’ve always endeavoured to make legal assistance and guidance available to all types of creators,” said Priyanka Khimani, Co-Founder and Strategic Advisor at Songpact. “India is a vast, diverse country, and technology is our greatest ally in democratising access. Songpact offers an affordable, pocket-friendly solution that enables artists and their teams to create, negotiate and manage everyday contracts with ease.”

If the old way of drafting music deals was like playing a never-ending remix of Word documents and mark-ups, Songpact brings a new rhythm. Users answer simple questions on commercial terms, guided by plain-language explainers. The platform then auto-generates a robust, plain-English contract ready for e-signature and secure storage all within minutes and available 24/7.

“The rest of the music industry has evolved from digital distribution to data-driven marketing but the contract process hasn’t changed in decades,” said Nick Weaser, Co-Founder and CEO of Songpact. “We’re changing that. Songpact isn’t just about contracts; it’s about empowering creators with access, knowledge and confidence. It levels the playing field.”

Songpact’s India plans are tuned to different budgets: users can start free with pay-as-you-go credits or opt for subscription tiers starting at Rs 1,999 a month, with bundled, discounted credits that roll over for future use.

India marks the latest stop in Songpact’s global rollout, following launches in the UK, Australia and South Africa. For a market ranked among the fastest-growing music economies in the world, Songpact’s entry comes at a critical moment when creators are demanding more transparency and control over their careers.

“We are incredibly proud to bring Songpact to India,” added Weaser. “It’s home to some of the world’s most dynamic and gifted artists. But like everywhere else, contracts have been stuck in the past often expensive, opaque, or skipped entirely. Songpact removes that barrier and puts power back into the hands of those who make the music.”

In an era when streaming democratises sound, Songpact wants to democratise the signatures behind it making sure that every track, deal, and dream gets the fine print it deserves.

Because in the music business, harmony sounds even better when it’s legal.
