Nimbus asserts deals done, telecast partners to be announced by 27 Feb

MUMBAI: Five days after Nimbus Communications clinched a $612.18 million (Rs 27.24 billion) global media rights deal for cricket to be played in India for the next four years, there is still no word on who will be telecasting the upcoming England tour.

According to a statement issued today by Nimbus Sport, it has reached agreement with broadcast platforms in the USA, Canada, Carribean, UK and the Middle East. However, company officials would not offer specifics, stating many of the contracts were still in the process of being signed.

Nimbus says that the contracting process for most of these deals is expected to be complete by Monday, 27 February, following which details of the broadcast platforms in each territory shall be announced. The series officially kicks off on 1 March with the first Test in Nagpur.

Agreement for broadcast in secondary territories Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, have also been reached, says Nimbus. Additionally, the Harish Thawani-promoted company claimed a first in regards to broadcast arrangements having been reached for new territories such as Greece and Fiji.

The details of the Nimbus statement are as follows:

1) Nimbus has concluded radio broadcast arrangements in the UK (BBC Radio first confirmed by Indiantelevision.com) and also in the Middle East.

2) In India, Nimbus has reached arrangement for multiple broadcast platforms and from the ODI part of the England tour shall also offer multiple language commentary feeds.

Said Nimbus Sport CEO Digvijay Singh, The combined reach of the various broadcast platforms will provide an unprecedented reach for showcasing Indian cricket, in addition to keeping Nimbus on track for its revenue targets.
