Lost Memories, Found Healing as Sony Sab Prescribes a New Drama
MUMBAI: Memory loss, it turns out, can be the start of a powerful second opinion. Sony Sab is set to expand its storytelling canvas with Hui Gumm Yaadein – Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan, the official Indian adaptation of the globally acclaimed Italian medical drama DOC – Nelle Tue Mani. The format, already adapted in more than five countries, arrives in India with its core themes intact compassion, resilience and the quiet triumph of the human spirit.
Staying faithful to the emotional spine of the original, the series follows a gifted doctor whose life is derailed after a traumatic incident wipes out years of memory. Stripped of professional authority and personal certainty, he must rebuild not just his career, but his understanding of relationships and healing itself. The amnesia becomes less a plot device and more a lens, pushing the protagonist towards a more empathetic, human approach to medicine. Notably, the adaptation departs from television’s familiar tropes by placing a layered male lead at its centre, offering a refreshingly different gaze within the Hindi GEC space.
For Sony Sab, the show underlines a larger programming ambition. Sony Sab business head, Ajay Bhalwankar noted that the series represents the channel’s intent to bring distinctive, character-driven narratives to Indian viewers. From the format owners’ perspective, Sony Pictures Entertainment VP distribution South Asia Sonika Bhasin described India as a crucial market for the DOC franchise, citing Sony Sab’s ability to translate global stories into emotionally authentic family dramas.
Blending high-stakes medical tension with intimate personal reckonings, Hui Gumm Yaadein – Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan positions itself as more than a hospital drama. It is a story about rediscovering purpose when certainty disappears, and about how healing can begin only once vulnerability is allowed to surface. The series is set to premiere soon on Sony Sab, inviting audiences to witness a journey where losing memory may just lead to finding meaning.
