Jackson documentary UK’s top TV export

MUMBAI: Martin Bashir’s sensational documentary Living with Michael Jackson was Britain’s biggest television export last year, according to figures released today.

The documentary delat with the superstar’s eccentric life was shown in more than 120 countries.
 
 
At a time when modern TV dramas have not been doing particularly well in the market, new glamorous shows like Footballers Wives and Spooks proved to be popular exports, reveals the data released by British Television Distributors’ Association.

A quarter of TV export earnings came from children’s programmes, their merchandise and video/DVD rights. Revenue from British shows rose by 22% to $921 million in 2003, according to the British Television Distributors’ Association. The best-selling new programmes in 2003 were documentaries.
