Cartoon Network to premiere ‘Camp Lazlo’ on 12 February

MUMBAI: Cartoon Network will be launching Camp Lazlo, a weekly Sunday morning show on 12 February. The Cartoon Network Studio Productions’ animated series Camp Lazlo revolves around a monkey – Lazlo.

In sync with Cartoon Network’s overall localisation strategy, Camp Lazlo has been completely Indianised by carefully introducing Indian nuances and touches to each of the characters through voicing by Indian artistes.

The series is all about Lazlo, who wreaks good-natured havoc on his highly structured summer home, Camp Kidney.

His friendly mischief-making, wacky camp shenanigans and a budding, confusing relationship with a very cute mongoose named Patsy Smiles drive the action in the new series from Joe Murray, creator of Rocko’s Modern Life.

The half hour 26-episode animated comedy series will be aired every Sunday at 9:30 am on Cartoon Network.

In an Indianised version specifically languaged for India, Lazlo is a natural-born non-conformist who joins the camp from Mumbai.

His attitude is very much of a Mumbai school boy, with a great imagination and optimistic spirit. He lives in Jelly Cabin with his pals and co-conspirators Raj, a reluctant, compulsive Indian elephant, and Clam, an eccentric, misfit, genius, albino South Indian pygmy rhino.

Together this trio turns to eager persuasion and good-natured meddling when it comes to things like finding buried treasure, saving a rare giant mulberry tree, staking out the best mud puddle and managing to create trouble for Scoutmaster Lumpus, retired Punjabi Colonel up on a date.

Sometimes Lazlo’s fellow Bean Scouts, like Edward the Platypus, the Dung Beetles, the Loon Brothers and Samson the Guinea Pig, join him; other times, it’s just Lazlo along with Raj and Clamand the rest of the Jelly Cabin habitués fighting the good fight. Adding to the tension in Bean Scout Camp is the fact that just across the lake are their natural rivals, the girls of Squirrel Scout Camp.

“Kids love adventure! And what better way to showcase this than a show that chronicles the excitement and adventures of a camping life in the great outdoors! In keeping with Cartoon Network’s tradition of showcasing the very best of programming, to beat the summer heat Cartoon Network’s weekend offering, Camp Lazlo, is sure to rivet kids to their seats every Sunday through its distinctive characters, comic situations and enjoyable story-plots. With Camp Lazlo, we will be looking at strengthening our existing line up, which boasts the Indian production of Akbar & Birbal, and other classics including Tom & Jerry and Baby Looney Tunes,” said Cartoon Network, India and South Asia senior programming manager Vishnu Athreya.
