BBC to make its mind up about Eurovision contest

MUMBAI: BBC One’s new show for the UK gives Brits a chance to decide whom they want to see represent the country at this years edition of the Eurovision music contest..

Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up airs on Saturday night 7 February. The song that is chosen will go forward to the Eurovision Song Contest in Turkey in May. The hour long show will feature performances by the six competing acts on a set in front of a studio audience with several guest appearances.

Britain’s top pop composing teams – whose artists credits include Blue, Christina Aguilera, Westlife, Ronan Keating, Enrique Iglesias and Cher – have written five of the competing songs. The sixth spot has been reserved for aspiring British songwriters.

Each of the six acts have spent a lot of time being groomed for the big occasion. They are Enrap-ture, Haifa, James Fox, Hyrise, Madison Taylor and Haydon. Eurovision is in its 50th year. Voting will be done through SMS and a scoreboard will be displayed. Along with the SMS seven UK celebrities will announce their choices. Over the course of the next three months the British winner will have his/her song commercially released.
