MUMBAI: The credits are rolling in the right direction for UFO Moviez. India’s digital cinema distribution and in-cinema advertising company delivered a stronger opening act to FY27, reporting a sharp rise in profit as higher revenues and improved operating performance helped offset rising costs.

The company’s EBITDA edged up to Rs 18.85 crore, compared with Rs 19.29 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, reflecting resilient operating performance despite higher business costs.
Profit before tax climbed to Rs 7.95 crore, against Rs 8.90 crore in the year-ago period and Rs 6.61 crore in the March quarter, supported by better operating efficiency and higher finance income.
Total expenses rose to Rs 92.97 crore, compared with Rs 89.74 crore a year earlier, driven by higher employee and operating costs.
Among the major expense heads, purchases of digital cinema equipment and lamps declined to Rs 17.80 crore from Rs 22.52 crore, while advertisement revenue sharing remained broadly stable at Rs 21.51 crore. Employee benefit expenses increased to Rs 22.25 crore from Rs 21.11 crore, while other operating direct costs rose to Rs 8.02 crore from Rs 7.62 crore. Other expenses also increased to Rs 17.72 crore, compared with Rs 16.58 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
The company incurred a tax expense of Rs 2.31 crore, compared with Rs 2.38 crore a year ago, leaving earnings per share at Rs 1.45, up from Rs 1.15 in the corresponding quarter.

The standalone business also posted healthy growth, with net profit rising to Rs 4.10 crore from Rs 3.65 crore a year earlier, while total income increased to Rs 92.91 crore from Rs 83.83 crore.
The June quarter suggests that UFO Moviez continues to benefit from improving cinema activity and a steady advertising environment. While operating costs remain elevated, stronger profitability and stable revenue growth indicate the company is gradually strengthening its position as theatres continue to attract audiences and advertisers alike.
