Toy Story 5 sets August 18 digital release after $1 billion run
Pixar sequel moves to PVOD after grossing over $1 billion worldwide on $250 million budget
MUMBAI: Woody and Buzz are taking their blockbuster ride from the big screen to the small one. Toy Story 5 will arrive on digital platforms on 18 August 2026, giving audiences the option to rent or buy Pixar’s latest sequel just under two months after its theatrical release.
The film will be available through participating premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services, including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, from next Tuesday. Disney has also revealed details of its physical-media release, including a limited-edition 4K SteelBook alongside DVD and Blu-ray editions.
The digital arrival comes after an unusually long theatrical run for a major franchise title. Recent releases such as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu and Masters of the Universe have moved to digital considerably faster, making Toy Story 5‘s extended cinema window notable.
The reason is fairly easy to spot at the box office.
Toy Story 5 has crossed $1 billion globally against an estimated production budget of $250 million, according to the figures provided, and currently ranks as the third highest-grossing film of 2026.
The sequel’s performance has given Pixar another major franchise success, although it comes amid a tougher period for the animation studio. Disney has reportedly cut hundreds of Pixar jobs, with the restructuring linked in part to the underperformance of the studio’s previous release, Hoppers.
For audiences wanting to keep the latest Toy Story adventure beyond its digital run, Disney’s physical release will include DVD and Blu-ray editions, with the 4K SteelBook offering a more collector-friendly version.
With its theatrical run still fresh and the billion-dollar milestone already in the bag, Toy Story 5 is now taking its next step from cinema seats to living-room screens.
