MUMBAI: The numbers are still toxic for the competition, even if the daily collections are cooling off. Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has crossed the Rs 250 crore mark worldwide after four days in theatres, even as its India collections continued to soften on Saturday.

The Geetu Mohandas-directed gangster drama earned an estimated Rs 24.50 crore net in India on Day 4, according to Sacnilk figures cited in the supplied material. The Saturday haul came from 17,612 shows and was 9.9 per cent lower than the Rs 27.20 crore net collected on Day 3.

With the latest numbers, Toxic has reached Rs 190.45 crore net in India. Its domestic gross stands at Rs 227.50 crore, while overseas markets contributed another Rs 4 crore on Day 4, taking the film’s worldwide gross to Rs 254.75 crore.

The film’s India net journey began with a blockbuster Rs 101.10 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs 37.65 crore on Day 2, Rs 27.20 crore on Day 3 and Rs 24.50 crore on Day 4.

Its opening day also generated Rs 120.75 crore gross in India, while overseas markets added Rs 20 crore, taking its worldwide gross for Day 1 to Rs 140.75 crore. The opening put Toxic among the year’s biggest theatrical performers, with its Day 1 India net reportedly surpassing the opening-day figure for Dhurandhar Part 1.

The bigger question now is whether the film can keep its momentum beyond its explosive start. Saturday’s decline comes against a backdrop of mixed reactions, with online conversations ranging from its violent sequences and romantic tracks to its portrayal of female characters.

Yash and Kiara Advani’s romantic track Tabaahi has also attracted criticism, while an implied intimate sequence involving Rukmini Vasanth has become another talking point.

For now, however, the box office is giving the film plenty to celebrate. Crossing Rs 254.75 crore worldwide in four days gives Toxic a sizeable cushion, but its performance through the rest of the weekend will determine whether its powerful opening develops into sustained theatrical business.

The film also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. Released on August 26 in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English, Toxic received an A certificate from the CBFC with no cuts.
