Toxic crosses Rs 200 crore in India after five days in theatres
Yash starrer reaches Rs 214.10 crore net as Sunday adds Rs 23 crore to its tally
MUMBAI: Toxic is proving it has plenty of bite, but the box office curve is beginning to look less wild. Yash-led Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark in India, collecting Rs 214.10 crore net after five days in theatres.
The film added an estimated Rs 23 crore on its first Sunday, according to trade tracker Sacnilk figures cited in the supplied material. Its India gross has reached Rs 255.95 crore, while its worldwide gross stands at Rs 285.20 crore, including Rs 2 crore from overseas markets.
The opening day remains the film’s biggest box-office driver. Toxic started with an impressive Rs 101.10 crore net in India before settling into a slower rhythm. Day 2 brought in Rs 37.65 crore, followed by Rs 27.20 crore on Day 3 and Rs 25.15 crore on Day 4.
Sunday’s Rs 23 crore came from 16,241 shows, highlighting the sharp moderation from the film’s opening-day rush. The next few days will therefore be crucial in determining whether Toxic can turn its blockbuster start into a sustained theatrical run.
Hindi market cools off
The Hindi version has followed a similar trajectory. After reportedly opening at Rs 55 crore, its fifth-day contribution fell to around Rs 14 crore.
The slowdown puts the spotlight on the film’s ability to hold its audience once the extended opening period fades. At Rs 214.10 crore net, Toxic has already moved within striking distance of the reported lifetime India collection of Yash’s first KGF film.
KGF benchmark still has the edge
Released in 2018, KGF eventually collected around Rs 228 crore net in India, against a reported production cost of approximately Rs 80 crore.
KGF Chapter 2, released in 2022, took the franchise to a different league. It grossed Rs 1,215 crore worldwide, comprising Rs 1,000.85 crore from India and Rs 214.15 crore overseas. Its India net stood at Rs 434.70 crore, against a reported budget of Rs 100 crore.
With Toxic already at Rs 214.10 crore net in just five days, the first KGF benchmark is now almost within touching distance. However, its softer daily collections make it too early to assume that the film will follow the same long-run trajectory.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. Shot in Kannada and English, the film was released with dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
The cast includes Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. The film has received mixed reactions from critics and audiences, with its content also prompting discussion across social media.
For now, the question is less about whether Toxic can cross Rs 200 crore, it already has and more about how much mileage it can get after the opening-day fuel starts running out.
