Toxic crosses Rs 150 crore in India despite Day 3 collection dip
Yash starrer earns Rs 26.60 crore on Day 3, taking three day net to Rs 165.35 crore
MUMBAI: The numbers may be cooling, but Toxic is still burning through the box office. Yash and Nayanthara-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups saw its India net collections fall on Day 3, but still crossed the Rs 150 crore mark within its first three days.
The Geetu Mohandas directorial collected an estimated Rs 26.60 crore net in India on Friday, according to Sacnilk, marking a 29.3 per cent decline from the Rs 37.65 crore it earned on Thursday. The film had opened with a hefty Rs 101.10 crore net on Wednesday.
With the latest haul, Toxic has reached Rs 165.35 crore net in India. Its domestic gross stands at Rs 197.70 crore, while overseas collections have contributed another Rs 23.75 crore, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 221.45 crore.
Friday saw the film record 25.5 per cent overall occupancy across 19,390 shows in India. The Hindi version led Day 3 collections with Rs 19.15 crore, followed by Kannada at Rs 5 crore. Telugu contributed Rs 1.50 crore, Tamil Rs 0.75 crore and Malayalam Rs 0.20 crore.
Kannada recorded the highest occupancy among the five reported language versions at 37 per cent.
The film’s day-wise numbers, however, reveal a sharp step-down after its opening. Toxic collected Rs 101.10 crore on Day 1, Rs 37.65 crore on Day 2 and Rs 26.60 crore on Day 3, putting its three-day India net at Rs 165.35 crore.
The opening run also trails Yash’s previous release KGF: Chapter 2. That film collected Rs 116 crore on Day 1, Rs 90.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 82 crore on Day 3, taking its three-day India net to Rs 288.50 crore.
That leaves Toxic Rs 123.15 crore behind KGF: Chapter 2 at the same stage.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic stars Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. The film has been released in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English.
The CBFC cleared the film without cuts and awarded it an A certificate.
For now, Toxic has comfortably crossed the Rs 150-crore mark, but its slowing daily collections suggest that the real box-office test will be whether it can maintain momentum beyond its explosive opening.
