Shemaroo releases collectors DVD pack of documentary of Guru Dutt
MUMBAI: To commemorate the 86th birth anniversary of film maker actor Guru Dutt, Shemaroo Entertainment has released a collectors DVD pack of Nasreen Munni Kabir’s documentary ‘In Search of Guru Dutt‘.
Launching the collector’s DVD pack, Shemaroo Entertainment Director Hiren Gada said, “In search of Guru Dutt is a fine documentary film that captures the essence of Guru Dutt’s personal life, his contribution to the industry and the different phases of his career. This film is made with a lot of passion and we are sure that it will evoke a feeling of admiration and nostalgia among audiences.”
‘In Search of Guru Dutt’ is a moving and haunting 85-minute film.Presented through evocative film excerpts and insightful comments by colleagues and near ones like Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Abrar Alvi, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Kaifi Azmi, Johny Walker, Shyam Benegal, Atmaram, Kalpana Lajmi among others, the collector’s pack also has a book along with the DVD which has few of the most rare photos of Guru Dutt and his close ones.
Talking about her documentary Kabir said, “This is perhaps one of the first long documentaries on an Indian film personality and I feel most fortunate to have recorded the many fine minds of Indian Cinema, many of whom have now passed away and whose contribution will always remain a vital part of the Indian film history.”
Best known for producing an annual season of Indian films for the British terrestrial television channel (Channel 4), Kabir also recently published three well received coffee table books called In Search of Lata Mangeshkar; A. R. Rahman : The Spirit of Music and The Dialogue of Pyaasa.
It is said that Kabir made this documentary film 20 years ago. This was the first comprehensive documentary film made about Guru Dutt on his work and continues to remain one of the best sources of information on Dutt’s films, his technique and work.
On the occasion Dutt’s son Arun Dutt averred, “When I saw In Search of Guru Dutt for the first time, I was truly impressed by the portrayal of my father’s films, the interviews with the family and his co-workers, and the way in which Nasreen had visualised it.

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s popularity contest has a new weekly scorecard, and the numbers are telling. IMDb’s Popular Indian Celebrities list for this week places Shanaya Kapoor at number six, buoyed by buzz around her film Tu Yaa Main. Naila Grrewal slots in at seven on the back of the returning comedy series Maamla Legal Hai, while Rashmika Mandanna climbs to eighth, riding mounting anticipation for Cocktail 2.
The list, available exclusively on the IMDb app for Android and iOS, tracks trending Indian entertainers and filmmakers each week, drawing on data from more than 200m monthly visits to the platform worldwide.
Further down the rankings, Raaka is keeping two of its biggest names in the spotlight. Deepika Padukone holds 11th position, with Allu Arjun close behind at 13th, as the film continues to find traction with audiences.
The list offers fans a weekly pulse on who is breaking through, who is holding steady, and who is fading. It is a barometer as unsparing as the box office itself.
