Robert Pattinson says Batman fight scenes are harder with age
Actor says five-year gap between films has made the action in The Batman Part 2 tougher
MUMBAI: The Dark Knight may not age, but the man inside the suit certainly feels it. Robert Pattinson says the fight scenes in The Batman Part 2 have become considerably tougher, with the actor admitting he is feeling his age after roughly five years away from Gotham’s cape-and-cowl action.
Speaking to GQ ahead of the release of his new film Primetime, Pattinson said returning to Batman has been enjoyable and that he remains excited about the sequel, but the physical demands have changed.
“I’m definitely feeling my age when fighting a lot,” Pattinson said, adding that the action is “significantly harder than it used to be”. He nevertheless described the experience as fun and said he expects the film to be “pretty great”, while comparing the production to a marathon.
Pattinson was cast as Batman in 2019, when he was 33, and filmed the first movie through 2020 and 2021. The lengthy wait for the sequel means his version of Bruce Wayne has aged considerably between appearances, an ironic twist given that The Batman was built around a younger, less experienced Caped Crusader.
The delay has also changed Pattinson’s position among previous live-action Batmen. He is now older than Christian Bale was in The Dark Knight Rises and only three years younger than Ben Affleck was in Batman v Superman, despite both those portrayals being conceived as older and more battle-worn versions of the character.
Getting The Batman Part 2 into production has been a long process, but cameras finally began rolling earlier this summer.
The sequel has assembled an expanded cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry, although many of their roles remain under wraps.
Set photos and videos emerging online have already offered glimpses of the action, including sequences featuring the Batmobile and Gotham police amid a snow-covered Gotham City.
Fans will have to wait a little longer for the finished film. The Batman Part 2 was originally scheduled for October 2027, but the release has since been pushed back to February 2028.
So while Pattinson may be finding Batman’s punches harder to throw, the wait for audiences to see them on the big screen is proving even harder to land.
