Odyssey lands in India as Nolan brings Matt Damon & Tom Holland to star-studded IMAX premiere in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Hollywood is heading to Mumbai with epic scale, as filmmaker Christopher Nolan prepares to bring his latest spectacle The Odyssey to India as part of a global premiere tour.

Universal Pictures International has announced that Christopher Nolan will attend the Mumbai premiere of The Odyssey this July, marking the first time a Nolan film will debut in India. The visit positions Mumbai alongside global entertainment capitals such as London, Paris and New York on the film’s international launch circuit.

Nolan will be joined by a star-studded lineup including Matt Damon, Tom Holland and producer Emma Thomas. The ensemble attendance marks one of the most high-profile Hollywood visits to India in recent years, adding significant spotlight to the country’s growing premium cinema market.

The India premiere is scheduled at PVR Icon IMAX Phoenix Palladium, reinforcing the film’s large-format ambition. Shot across multiple locations worldwide, The Odyssey has been filmed using next-generation IMAX technology and is being promoted as the first feature shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

Produced by Syncopy, the film reimagines Homer’s classic epic, following Odysseus’ long journey home after the fall of Troy. The ensemble cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.

The Mumbai premiere is part of a wider global rollout strategy, with advance IMAX tickets already on sale across India ahead of the film’s worldwide release on July 17. Industry observers say the decision to include India in the official premiere tour underscores the country’s rising importance in global box office and premium format cinema.
